216/05/2018UNITED UTILITIES: All Hands Meeting
Update meeting arranged by United Utilities and involving all their nominated contractors who are currently providing investigation services on the Framework Agreement. This was effectively a closing out meeting looking at experiences within the industry since the geotechnical team at United Utilities were proactive following an accident on site and banned the use of cable percussion rigs that were not fitted with an approved whip guard modification.
Remobilisation back to the A9 Berriedale Braes Investigation area on behalf of Transport Scotland. This investigation stage is for the dialogue section of the contract which is required to assist the main contractors interested in tendering. The scope is significantly broader than our previous outing which now includes seismic and resistivity non-intrusive geophysics surveys, geological scanline logging, pavement coring, together with the same amount of drilling and trial pitting as last time. To cap it all the weather was almost perfect throughout the contract.
Successful completion of the siteworks with a little assistance from our friends, TerraDat and European Geophysics.
Successful application to the Association of Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Specialists (AGS) and consequently we are now an approved member having recieved the governing senates approval. It is hoped that our expertise, practitioners and employees will take this opportunity to contribute to this important industry forum and work to make a difference in an industry that deserves greater recognition. Quality and fit-for-purpose site investigation services are issues that we feel extremely strongly about  - please refer to our listing which can be found here.

The company welcomes Nathan Waterhouse who has joined the Company in the capacity of Graduate Geotechnical Engineer after successful completion of his MSc studies at Newcastle University. With training and some time thrown in for good measure it is hoped that Nathan will be a worthy addition to the company's ranks.
Really good news, our recent independent Achilles Verify B2 Audit assessment yielded exceptional results of 100% across all management systems, both in the office and on site. This is an tangible improvement on previous assessments and suggests that the Company is on-track with respect to its SHEQ systems.
Further to being notified by Transport Scotland (and soon after as featured on their Twitter feed) the Company is delighted to be awarded the A90 Laurencekirk Junction investigation in Aberdeen. It is currently expected that the intrusive works will take place at some point in May 2019.
